As many of you know, I am a California transplant - for those of you who are just learning, please don’t hold it against me! Growing up in Southern California, my dad taught me to surf when I was seven and almost thirty years later, we continue to paddle out together when I visit and the waves are right. Don't get me wrong, I love Austin and the many things it has to offer, but after my family and friends, surfing is one of the things I miss most about California. However, thanks to Discovery Land Company and Kelly Slater, it looks like there are waves in Austin’s forecast!
The partnership is resulting in the creation of Austin Surf Club - a residential surf community being built East of the airport in Austin. The community will be located on a 160-acre lot at 4725 Navarro Creek Rd, Del Valle, TX 78617, the previous site of NLand Surf, and will have a 2,200 ft long surf basin, a spa, and farm-to-table dining experiences in addition to the residential living, according to Discovery Land Company. The Austin Surf Club website describes itself as “a one-of-a-kind surf residential community where cutting-edge technology and classic surf culture converge.”
According to an article in the Austin Business Journal, the timeline for completion is unclear, but work has already begun on the property and the residential community will include 140 condos. Are you excited for the idea of a surf community outside of Austin and would you want to live there?
